The Miss World and Miss Universe are two different pageants that take place each year. You may have wondered about the differences between these two.
These are nothing but beauty contests after which the winners are expected to show up at certain prominent events until the next winner is announced the following year.
The Miss Universe pageant is considered to have a higher status than Miss World though there is nothing official or concrete reason to suggest that either one is better. The funny part is, many critics state that Miss Universe is wrongly named as only women from earth take part in it.
The national winners are selected by the national franchises. For e.g., in India Femina Miss India conducts the qualifying rounds of beauty pageants. Earlier they used to select the winner for Miss Universe and runner up for Miss World; now they select three winners, one each for Miss Universe, Miss World and Miss Earth.
Here are some basic differences between these two beauty contests:
1. The Owners:
The Miss World competition is managed by the Miss World Organization and Julia Morley (left) is its president.
The Miss Universe pageant is run by the Miss Universe Organization, which is currently owned by business tycoon Donald Trump (right), US presidential candidate in 2016, in a joint venture with broadcaster NBC.
2. The Residence:
Traditionally, Miss World lives in London and Miss Universe lives in New York City during her reign.
3. The Beginning:
The Miss Universe pageant started it’s journey in 1952 by clothing company Pacific Mills in the United States and Miss World was started by Englishman Eric Morley in 1951. Miss World is also recognized as the longest running of the pageants.
